The PPSDC April 11, 2017 general meeting will be an open house event with Canon Explorer of Light, Michele Celentano. After 25 years of experience, Michele’s passion for transforming her photography into works of art only continues to grow. She considers herself incredibly blessed to enjoy such a wonderful and amazing career. Michele was awarded her Craftsmen Degree from the Professional Photographers of America and the Accolade of Photographic Mastery from Wedding and Portrait Photographers International. Her artwork has been published in literary works such as Rangefinder, American Photographer, Shutterbug, Studio Photography as well as numerous books on the art of photography. Michele is one of an elite group of photographers to be sought out by Canon USA to represent their company as an Explorer of Light. Only 50 photographers nationwide hold this honor. Michele and her images were recently featured in numerous advertisements for Canon and their new professional line of cameras. In addition to running her studio full time, Michele continues to travel internationally to teach and lecture on the subject of professional photography and imagery. Most recently, Michele published her first book Photographing Families – Tips for Capturing Timeless Images. From Michele: Selling portraits has changed dramatically over the past few years. Before digital, we had proofs and some even scanned images to do sales. As digital took hold of our industry, so did digital files, leaving printed photographs and portraits sales in the past. It’s time to reengage with printed portraits for your clients. After 25 years of selling without printed photographs, I have learned the value of preprinting and selling your work. During this PPSDC open house presentation, I will walk you through what you need to do to get started selling with printed photographs, teach you how to price, sell and turn your digital file business into a thriving printed portrait business. Using both a reveal wall (thanks to Sue Bryce), slideshows, and digital technology, I will teach you how to increase your average portrait sale. Pre-Meeting Networking / Happy Hour: 5:30pm-6:30pm Please RSVP for this event here:

Join PPSDC and Canon Explorer of Light, Michele Celentano, for an all-day workshop at Balboa Park! Family Portraits That Sell Family portraits can be the most profitable product line in your studio. The opportunities that family portraits create for sales are huge. Wall portraits, albums and beyond… Great portrait photography is all about making people look and feel great! It’s time to move beyond “candid” snapshots and get back to the classics! If you have ever wondered how to make people look so good they love every portrait you create – don’t miss this learning experience. You will learn time tested techniques for working with children, making mom look great, and putting dad at ease. Michele will cover posing subjects in a natural relaxed way, putting groups of all sizes together, making people look thinner and younger without using a computer, getting those little ones to cooperate and many other ideas that will take your portraits to the next level. Michele will share her insight into photographing people and creating consistent and beautiful portraits. Lighting, posing, communication and knowledge of child development are all critical skills a great photographer needs to know. In today’s market great posing and lighting skills are so important… cameras, lenses and computer techniques will only go so far. Your best images start with you and with what you create in the camera. You will walk away from this seminar with new ideas you can put to good use right away! About Michele After 25 years of experience, her passion for transforming photographs into treasured memories for families only continues to grow. Michele Celentano is the author of Photographing Families – Tips for Capturing Timeless Images. Most recently she appeared on CreativeLive.com for a three day workshop about photographing families that was viewed globally by more than 30,000 photographers. Michele is one of an elite group of photographers to be sought out by Canon USA to represent their company as an Explorer of Light. Only 50 photographers nationwide hold this honor. Michele and her images have been featured in numerous advertisements for Canon and their professional line of cameras. From the President

We, as the PPSDC Board, are going to provide our members with a Business Track this coming year. We will have meetings with speakers who are Certified Professional Photographers and workshops to help our members get their business licenses, insurance, and other legal necessities in order, as well as marketing and self-promotion with websites and social media. We’ll explore opportunities in commercial photography, too, to include landscape, real estate, art, food, and product photography, as well as photojournalism. And we’ll have some of the more traditional workshops with posing, lighting and other portrait types of work.

We are a completely volunteer organization and we cannot achieve all we hope to do without your help. As members, you can share your personal interests with the board and/or committee members to help shape our programming and Safari outings this coming year.

My hope is that our current members and everyone who joins us this year will learn something new and have most, if not all, of their expectations met. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns.
